It is shocking to learn that the Eiffel Tower was not immediately admired by the public. Perhaps the transition of the city from conservative to modern came at a fast pace. I personally would have been in agreement with the public, especially after witnessing the elegance of Versailles. However, a break of tradition is what the city probably needed. I will resoundingly admit that I only saw the Eiffel Tower as Paris’ most iconic monument to capture great Kodak moments. But even pictures cannot capture the internal beauty of this grand steel tower. From the moment I saw the tip of the Eiffel Tower, I instantly grew fond of it. My admiration for this historic accomplishment grew even more when I learned its story and what it represented. When I stood in front of this tower, I felt small and defenseless. But they were emotions that were influenced by the technical work of a man who wanted to scream to the world that France was transforming itself into something bigger. It may have been controversial at first but today it has brought different cultures together. The sight of tourists always surrounding this cultural icon may seem overwhelming but it represents the unity of nations. The Eiffel Tower has become such a popular attraction because man has turned it into something important. The history behind this monument may not be known to a lot of people but its external appearance can speak for itself. The construction of this tower is not ordinary and it may be one of the reasons why people started to approach it differently. It was unique at its time and it represented a new modern era. And till this day it has remained distinctive. Possibly the main purpose for many people to visit the tower is to capture that black and white picture. It certainly was for me. But I also wanted to embrace this architectural masterpiece. My camera captured every angle of the Eiffel Tower but my heart captured its essence.  |
