Time is essential when visiting the Rodin Museum. There are sculptures everywhere and time is really on your own hands. My visit to this museum was intriguing and long; it felt like an eternity to get around and observe each sculpture. Although it was an extensive visit, it was the museum that I probably enjoyed the most. Mr. Rodin certainly did a remarkable job displaying emotions through marble. The whole idea does seem very modern and nontraditional, and I can agree with those who claim that Rodin is the father of modern sculpture. His work is emotionally diverse compared to the statues exhibited at the Louvre. The sculptures displayed at the Louvre followed a consistent notion of artwork: classic beauty. Rodin’s sculptures were more realistic and representational of humanity. The piece that I personally thought upheld the idea of a Romantic artist was The Thinker.  This bronze sculpture commits the act of thinking excessively to observe the passengers that enter and exit the real world. It is an action that is consistently done by humanity. Rodin’s approach to realism is reflected throughout the whole museum. And it was evident that his emotions and feelings were released unsubtly through marble. If we compare Giacometti’s Walking Man with Rodin’s, it is evidently clear that Rodin’s is more well-defined. His sculpture amplifies a greater effect of movement than Giacometti’s. I was pleased to have visited Rodin’s extraordinary museum. I felt privileged to stand in front of the infamous Gates of Hell and the unquestionable His Cathedral Hands. The cathedral hands ended my visit with a smile on my face. For hundreds of years artists needed the cathedral to create art; Rodin escaped that practice and started sculpting with his own bare hands as a symbol of freedom and independence. It makes perfect sense why people considered his work modern, because he wanted to liberate himself from classical beauty and create masterpieces that reflected reality. And I applaud and respect his bravery.
